ANZIO ITALY "JUNE 2004"!!!!!!!

Are you ready???  Our plans have been completed to return to Italy next year to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the liberation or Rome.  We have visited with officials of the US Government and officials of Rome, Anzio and Nettuno and they all promise us a warm welcome.  The itinerary includes visits to various battle sites, participating in ceremonies hosted by both the US and Italian governments and also a tour of the beautiful Tuscany region.  The cost of this 12 day trip will be $2, 350 per person and will include:

●  Round Trip Airfare (non smoking)

●  Buffet/Continental Breakfast

●  Bilingual Guide

●  Airport transfers, day trip tours and city tours by air conditioned, deluxe motor coach

●  Special Welcome and farewell dinners, including wine

●  Bilingual tour conductor, program management and coordination with local and governmental authorities.

●  4 Star Hotel Rooms with bath

●  8 Luncheons

●  10 Dinners

 

Since the hotels may require a deposit to hold a block of rooms, we are requesting travelers to send in an initial deposit of $300 per person by October 1, 2003, $600 per person by December 1, 2003 and the balance by March 1, 2004.  If you have any questions, please call or write:

FRIDAY, MAY 28

PM-Departure from New York City, JFK International Airport via Alitalia, to Rome Fiumicino-Leonardo da Vinci Airport (make your own arrangement to JFK).  Dinner on Board

SATURDAY, MAY 29-ANZIO

AM-Arrive in Rome, Fiumicino Airport.  Transfer to ANZIO by deluxe, a/c motor coach.  Stay at Grand Hotel dei Cesari.  Check in.  Balance of morning-free.

LUNCH-on your own.

PM-Visit local Anzio Landing Museum at Villa Adele/gift exchange.  Meet local authorities/gift exchange.  Visit Anzio WWII monument in newly redesigned Anzio Main Square.  Lay a wreath together with Anzio authorities. 

DINNER-Welcome Dinner in hotel.  Free after dinner.

SUNDAY, MAY 30-ANZIO

AM-Guided tour/visit of Aprilia, Cisterna, Campo di carne, British and German Memorial Cemeteries.

LUNCH-On your own in Anzio.

PM-Continue guided local tour.  Visit Ninfa, Norma...

DINNER-In local farm restaurant.  Return to hotel after dinner.

MONDAY, MAY 31ST-MEMORIAL DAY-NETTUNO

AM-Part 1 Re-inauguration ceremony of our organization's commemorative plaque in front of the new museum of the landing in Nettuno.  Ceremony attended by the Mayor of Nettuno and other dignitaries.  Followed by visit to Landing Museum.  Part 2 Participate in official program of Memorial Day event at American WWII cemetery-attended by US Ambassador to Italy, major Italian Government officials and local dignitaries.

LUNCH-On your own (pending official reception after memorial ceremony at cemetery. 

PM-After lunch, visit Torre Astura's beachhead site.  At conclusion, return to hotel.

DINNER-In hotel.  Retire after dinner.  Tomorrow is EARLY travel day to Montecassino and to Rome.  So...tonight is packing time.

TUESDAY, JUNE 1ST-MONTELCASSINO/ROME

AM-Transfer day.  Early departure from hotel for day trip to Montecassion.  Guided tour:  Abbey, other points of interest; meet local authorities/gift exchange.

LUNCH-Local Trattoria

PM-Time permitting, continue tour.  After tour, drive to Rome.  Stay in Fist Class Hotel close to downtown.  Check-In.

DINNER-In hotel.  Free after dinner.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 2ND-ROME-ITALY NATIONAL DAY-ESTA DELLA REPUBLICA ITALIANA

AM-Participate in Italy National Day's Military Parade on via dei Fori Imperiali.  Parade is attended by President of Italy, government officials, foreign diplomats, local authorities and thousands of Italian citizens.

LUNCH-In local trattoria

PM-Guided tour:  Borghese Gardens, Pincio, Borghese Museum.  Bus will return to hotel at conclusion.  Those who wish can go on their own.

DINNER-On your own (pending:  official reception hosted by President of Italy).

THURSDAY, JUNE 3RD-ROME

AM-Leave hote for day trip to Castelli Romani.  Guided tour:  Marino, Castle Gandolfo-Albano Lake (summer residence of the Pope) Frascati.  In Frascati meet local authorities/gift exchange.

LUNCH-In Frascati, in characteristic local trattoria.

Afternoon-continue guided tour of area towns:  Ariccia, Genzano.  Return to Rome hotel at conclusion.

DINNER-In hotel.  Free after dinner.

FRIDAY, JUNE 4TH-ROME-60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE LIBERATION OF ROME

AM-Anzio Veterans will take part in morning (and/or afternoon) commemorative ceremonies organized by Italian and US authorities/gift exchange.  We are coordinating this day with General Ed Thomas, who will be in Rome with his own group at the same time.

LUNCH-On your own (pending official reception hosted by local authorities).

PM-Visit Vittoriano Monument and Museum.  Return to hotel at conclusion.

DINNER-On your own (pending:  official reception hosted by US authorities in Rome).

SATURDAY, JUNE 5TH-ROME

AM-Guided tour-Roman Forum, Colosseum, Domus Aurea, Trevi Fountain.

LUNCH/PM-Free-on your own.  Bus will return to hotel from prearranged spot and time.

DINNER-In local restaurant.  Return to hotel after dinner.  Packing Time!  Next Day Transfer to TUSCANY.

SUNDAY, JUNE 6TH-ROME/TUSCANY-SIENA-FLORENCE

AM-Depart hotel for Tuscany.  Stop first at St. Peter's Basilica for visit to Basilica and to attend noon time traditional benediction by Pope.  At conclusion, proceed to Tuscany

LUNCH-Box lunch.

PM-On the way to Tuscany, make short visit to town of SIENA.  After visit, proceed to FLORENCE.  Late afternoon arrival at hotel in Florence.  Check-in.  Downtime. 

DINNER-In hotel.  Free after dinner.

MONDAY, JUNE 7TH-FLORENCE

AM-Guided tour-downtown Florence.  Cathedral, Baptistery, David (TBD visit6 with local authorities/gift exchange).

LUNCH-In local trattoria

PM-After lunch continue guided tour-Uffizi Gallery-Return to hotel at conclusion.

DINNER-In characteristic local restaurant.  Free after dinner.

TUESDAY, JUNE 8TH-FLORENCE/PISA

AM-Leave hotel for day trip to PISA.  On the way, stop for brief visit to the town of LUCCA.  Visit the Leaning Tower, the Baptistery and other site-time permitting.

LUNCH-In local trattoria.  Return to hotel at conclusion of tour.  Downtime in hotel.

DINNER-FAREWELL dinner in characteristic local restaurant.  Retire after dinner to prepare for next morning EARLY departure of Rome's Fiumicino airport.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 9TH-FLORENCE/ROME

AM-Leave hotel for Florence Airport for flight to Rome's Fiumicino Airport, connect with Alitalia flight to NYC/JFK-USA.

  1986 - Arlington National Cemetery.  Unit plaque plaque placed at   the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

  1988 - Aberdeen Proving Grounds.  Unit plaque placed at "Anzio Annie".

  1992 - Norfolk, Virginia - Commissioning of the Guided Missile Cruiser USS ANZIO CG68.

  1994 - Anzio, Italy - Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Italian Campaign.
